Bargaining is part of Thai culture, but there are places where it is and is not acceptable.
Smile and be friendly
Thai sellers respond to friendliness, not aggression.
Start at 50-60% of the asking price
This gives room to settle at 70-80%, which is usually a fair price.
The walk-away technique
If the seller will not budge, smile, say thank you, and walk away slowly. If your offer was fair, they will often call you back.
Buy multiple items for a discount
Buy 2-3 items and ask for a discount — typically 10-20% off.
Cash is better than card
Cash gets you better prices since sellers avoid card fees.

Bargaining is not a fight — it is a friendly dance. Smile and enjoy it. Never be aggressive or raise your voice. If you do not like the price, smile and walk away.
