Prevention

• - Use repellent containing DEET 20–30% or picaridin, especially at dusk and dawn
• - Wear long sleeves and long pants when outdoors at high-risk hours
• - Eliminate standing water around your home (flower pots, buckets, tires)
• - Sleep under a mosquito net if windows are not screened
• - Keep window and door screens in good repair

Symptoms to watch for

• - High fever (40°C)
• - Severe headache and pain behind the eyes
• - Muscle and joint pain
• - Nausea, vomiting, skin rash
• - Bleeding gums or nose

When to seek care

Go to a hospital immediately if fever lasts more than 2 days, you have severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding, or rapid breathing. Call 1669 for an ambulance.
