General Safety
Pattaya is generally safe for solo women. Violent crime against tourists is rare. The main issues are pickpocketing, being overcharged, and drunk men making unwanted advances.
Basic advice: do not drink heavily alone at bars, keep your bag close, avoid empty sois late at night, and have Grab ready on your phone. Emergency number 191, Tourist Police 1155.
Safe Accommodation
Choose hotels with 24-hour reception and CCTV. Three to four-star hotels in Jomtien or Pratumnak are solid choices, like The Zign Premium Villa, Centara Nova Hotel, or Ambassador City Jomtien.
Recommended hostel is Mad Monkey Hostel Pattaya, which has female-only dorm rooms and a social international atmosphere where solo women easily meet other travelers.
Transport
Use Grab or Bolt instead of motorbike taxis without meters. Grab is safer with tracking and driver ratings. Central Pattaya to U-Tapao airport costs around 800 THB.
Baht buses are fine during the day, but after midnight use Grab or hotel taxis. Do not ride a motorbike unless experienced. Pattaya has frequent motorbike accidents involving tourists, and treatment is expensive.
Recommended Activities
Yoga class at Divine Yoga Jomtien at 400 THB per class. Cafe hopping around Central Pattaya. One-day Thai cooking classes at Silom Thai Cooking School are fun and a great way to meet new friends.
A Koh Larn day trip is safe and busy with other tourists. Spa sessions at Let’s Relax or Oasis Spa are comfortable and safe. Thepprasit Night Market is good for browsing and snacks.
Areas to Avoid
Walking Street late at night and Soi 6 are not ideal for solo women who prefer a calm vibe. Not dangerous per se but uncomfortable. Soi 7 and 8 are okay in the early evening but avoid late at night.
Central Pattaya Beach at night has drunks and homeless people and is not ideal for solo walks. Jomtien and Pratumnak are quieter and safe for evening walks.
Community and Meeting People
The Facebook group "Solo Female Travelers in Thailand" has over 50,000 members sharing tips and Pattaya meetups. Couchsurfing Hangouts Pattaya runs 2-3 free events per week.
Meetup.com and Internations Pattaya Chapter host monthly social events for expats and travelers at 200-400 THB per entry, a safe and easy way to meet new people.
