12 items to check before taking the bike and signing. Progress is saved on your device.
1. Front & rear brakes
Squeeze both brakes — neither should be stiff nor slack.
2. Headlight, tail light, turn signals
Turn on every light and confirm each one works.
3. Front & rear tires
Check tread depth, inflation, and any cracks.
4. Side mirrors
Both mirrors must be present and adjustable.
5. Horn
Press the horn — it should be loud and clear.
6. Two helmets
The shop must provide helmets free — they must fit you and any passenger.
7. Fuel level
Photograph the fuel gauge at pickup so you return it at the same level.
8. Insurance
Ask about coverage for bike and rider. Keep the policy document with you.
9. Photo of every side of bike
Photograph front, back, left, right, and any existing scratches.
10. Do NOT leave your passport
Leave a cash deposit (2,000-5,000 THB) instead.
11. Written rental contract
Read all terms, especially damage fees, before signing.
12. International Driving Permit (IDP)
Thai police do check; fines are 500-1,000 THB without an IDP.
