Naklua Seafood
Naklua is Pattaya’s seafood hub. Lan Pho Naklua fish market opens morning and evening, selling fresh fish, prawns, and crab direct from boats at half the supermarket price. Local favorites are Mum Aroi and Nang Nual, both mid-priced with beachfront seating.
Must-try dishes include grilled river prawns, squid stir-fried with salted egg yolk, soy-pickled crab, blanched cockles, and steamed sea bass with lime. Plates run 300-800 THB depending on size. Order extra rice because seafood restaurants usually serve small portions.
Som Tam and Isaan Food
Most Pattaya service workers come from Isaan, so Isaan food here is cheap and excellent. Baan Isaan on Soi Buakhao serves som tam with salted crab at 60 THB, larb moo at 80 THB, and tom saep at 120 THB. Open 10 AM to midnight. Jae Lek on Thepprasit is equally good.
Must-try dishes include grilled bamboo chicken with sticky rice, Thai som tam (skip the fermented fish if it is your first time), cooked pork larb, and nam tok beef. Pair with jaew dipping sauce and cold beer for an authentic Isaan vibe.
Noodles and Rice Meals
The most-talked-about noodle shop in Pattaya is Guay Tiew Reua Pattaya (boat noodles) on Soi 13/2 at 40 THB per bowl with rich broth. Krua Suthep on Soi Buakhao offers 20+ Thai curries over rice at 50-70 THB per plate and closes at 2 PM.
Go-Ang khao man gai, the famous Bangkok chain, has a branch at Central Marina for 70 THB per plate with the same quality as the original. For red barbecue pork rice, the vendor in Lan Pho Naklua market charges 60 THB all day long.
Desserts and Fruit
Nam Dok Mai mango with sticky rice runs 80-120 THB at Mae Varee inside Central Festival. Bua loy with sweet egg at Thepprasit Night Market is 30 THB. Coconut ice cream with sticky rice and corn toppings outside Tops Market Jomtien is 30-40 THB.
Seasonal fruit: Monthong durian from June to August runs 150-250 THB per kilo, mangosteen 60-100 THB, rambutan 40 THB, and longan 50 THB. Buy from Naklua market or roadside carts for 30-50 percent less than supermarkets.
Honest Restaurant Picks
Mall restaurants worth trying include MK Live, After You, and Shabushi at Central Festival, which are standardized and clean but roughly twice the street price. Terminal 21 Istanbul zone is good value. For buffets, try Akiyoshi shabu at 499 THB per person or Oceans Seafood Buffet at Grand Sole Hotel at 1,290 THB.
Avoid Beach Road beach-side restaurants with long picture menus in English. Flavors are watered down and prices run 50-100 percent above normal. Pick restaurants with many Thai customers, prominent Thai-language menus, and no touts calling you in from the street.
